Job summary

City of Mason Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a Part-Time Gymnastics Coach to plan and lead a safe, engaging Xcel team program at the Mason Community Center. You will develop routines, supervise athletes at meets, and ensure proper use of equipment, while maintaining a positive and inclusive environment.

The role requires USA Gymnastics Competitive Coach Membership, Safety & Risk Management certification, and First Aid/CPR certification, with availability for evenings, weekends, and

  • USA Gymnastics Safety & Risk Management Certification required.
  • American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead safe, effective gymnastics programming for the Mason Community Center.
  • Demonstrate and enforce safety rules; monitor equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Choreograph routines and supervise gymnasts during meets and practice sessions.
  • Maintain administrative records and participate in staff meetings as requested.
  • Provide instruction and information to participants and parents regarding programs.

General Statement of Duties and Distinguishing Features of Class

To plan and lead a safe, effective, and fun gymnastics Xcel team program at the Mason Community Center.

Examples of Work (Illustrative Only)
  • Demonstrates courteous, polite, and respectful behavior to all patrons and facility staff members.
  • Enforces facility and program rules and regulations in a friendly, firm, and consistent manner.
  • Development, implementation, and execution of gymnastics programming for team gymnastics.
  • Monitors the safe and appropriate use of instructional equipment during class. Maintains accountability and proper storage, and reports maintenance or repair requests in a timely manner.
  • Provides support, information, referrals, and qualified instruction to participants seeking information on gymnastics programs.
  • Prepares and maintains administrative records and paperwork as requested.
  • Attends in-service training sessions and/or staff meetings as requested.
  • Upholds the policies and procedures of the City of Mason and the Parks & Recreation Department.
  • Displays knowledge of the department’s Infectious Material & Exposure Incident Policyand facility Emergency Action Procedures.
  • Administer and record any necessary first aid/victim care within the level of emergency training.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all emergency procedures throughout the recreational areas.
  • Choreograph routines for gymnasts.
  • Supervise athletes at meets.
  • Enforces attendance and discipline policies for athletes.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Possess and maintain USA Gymnastics Competitive Coach Membership to qualify to instruct athletes.
  • Acquire and maintain USA Gymnastics Safety & Risk Management Certification.
  • Possess and maintain current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • Previous experience in leading a variety of gymnastic classes, highly desirable.
  • Ability to teach a variety of gymnastics, tumbling, and cheer classes; and to customize a class format to a particular group’s needs.
  • The desire to obtain additional information on industry standards and trends.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (including evenings, weekends and holidays.)
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in an active community center environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and crouch for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Perform exercises as required in the gymnasium.
  • Possess average or above visual acuity.
  • Possess average or above auditory acuity.
