Job summary

The City of Redmond is seeking a Gym Supervisor to oversee activities within the Parks & Recreation division. This role supports youth and adult programs, day camps, and events while representing the city values of service and integrity.

Work hours are evenings Monday–Friday and some Saturdays; the position is up to 29 hours per week. Requires driver’s license, CPR/First Aid, and successful background check for assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares facilities for leagues/programs; oversee day camps as applicable.
  • Open/close facilities when needed.
  • Distribute/collect equipment.
  • Maintain communication documentation, manage other paperwork.
  • Schedule staff and volunteers, assist with training, cover staff breaks.
  • Organize supplies.
  • Plan daily events; may provide score keeping and/or officiating for activities and events.
  • Communicate with and work with players and volunteer coaches on game days.
  • Handle conflicts that may come up.
  • Arrive on time for your shift.
  • Interact positively with other officials and staff. Promote a positive sportsmanship environment.
  • Bring energy and enthusiasm.
  • Take the time to understand, explain, and enforce the rules.

The City of Redmond delivers high-quality services to our community, and we are looking to supplement our staff. The Gym Supervisor provides general oversight and supervision of activities and/or facilities within the Parks & Recreation division. This may include youth and adult sports leagues and programs, day camps, or other special events.

Hours/Schedule:

Work schedules may vary from week to week. Must be available Monday-Friday evenings (5:00pm-9:30pm) and sometimes Saturdays (9am-5pm). The position is limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week and no more than 1,040 hours per year.

Physical Demands

The following represent the physical demands that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Depending on the program, work is performed indoors and outdoors. Those assignments working outdoors may be exposed to varying weather conditions. Work involves moving throughout the facility and community.
  • Frequent communication with City employees and customers, program participants and/or parents and guardians
  • Hours vary depending upon season, work assignments, program enrollment; may be scheduled in morning, evening, or weekends
  • Move items weighing up to 50 pounds on occasion
  • Being on your feet for prolonged time to officiate games
  • Moderate physical activity on the court
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of 16 years of age by starting date
  • Education or training in recreation area directly related to specific position or program
  • Experience in a lead or supervisory capacity preferred
  • Successful passing of a required background check
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid WA State Driver's license required. Accommodations for lack of driver's license may be considered depending on the assignment or circumstances.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Some positions may require special licenses, certifications or training
