Job summary

American Commercial Barge Line in Convent, LA is seeking a Gulf Shuttle Dispatcher to coordinate barge movements, track load/unload statuses, and provide real-time updates to customers. This full-time, 7 on/7 off schedule requires strong organizational and communication skills.

You will work with area managers to plan movements, enter data into the Logistics Management System, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance while maximizing fleet utilization.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 3–5 years of logistics experience.
• Competence in dispatching, logistics, or fleet planning techniques.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute barge and boat schedules within the assigned river segment.
• Identify short-term power needs within the segment.
• Provide daily activity forecasts to area manager and validate plans.
• Communicate boat and barge positions, schedules, and information.
• Update barge release and placement information.
• Notify customers of pending barge arrivals and availability.
• Assist in planning fleet movements to maximize utilization.
• Maintain records in the Logistics Management System.
• Coordinate vendor activities and port occurrences as needed.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations.
• Initiate process improvements to meet customer expectations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a full-time, salaried opportunity with a 7 on/7 off schedule. This means 7 days on, working a 12-hour shift, then the following 7 days off.

What you will be doing… Your IMPACT

• Plan and execute barge and boat schedules within assigned river segment.


• Identify short-term power needs within assigned river segment.


• Provide area manager with daily activity forecast and validate current plan.


• Communicate boat and barge positions, schedules, and other information as required.


• Update barge release and placement information.


• Notify customers of pending barge arrivals, projected availability, and barge placements and releases.


• Assist in planning and coordinating fleet boat and barge movement in a safe manner that maximizes fleet boat utilization and minimizes use of external fleet power.


• Maximize cleaning and repair facility utilization and minimize barge idle days and shifting costs at internal fleets.


• Manage vendor activities within assigned river segment with a focus on generating fleet speed and barge capacity.


• Enter vendor, barge and other traffic data into computer system.


• Communicate orders to harbor service vendors and coordinate port occurrences.


• Monitor barge traffic for exceptions and make corrections.


• Ensure compliance with company policy and government regulations.


• Initiate process improvements on work flow to ensure customer expectations are met.


• Performs all other duties as assigned.

What We Are Looking For…

You will need to have:

• High school diploma/GED.


• Valid driver's license.


• 3-5 Years of logistics experience.


• Competence in dispatching, logistics or fleet planning techniques.
