Job summary

RTX is seeking an experienced engineer to support risk reduction and requirements-definition for electromechanical mechanisms. You will develop high-fidelity simulations, validate them against test data, and create surrogate models for system-wide analyses.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in STEM fields, hands-on experience with Matlab/Simulink and C, and proven ability to present findings clearly to sponsors and stakeholders. Security clearance and US citizenship are required.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 8 years of prior engineering experience.
  • Experience in Matlab, Simulink and the C programming language.
  • Experience in signal processing.
  • Experience developing clear and adaptable models of complex electromechanical systems.
  • Experience delivering professional presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, modify, and develop high-fidelity behavioral simulations of electromechanical actuators and sensors.
  • Tune and validate simulations against actual testbed data to ensure physical accuracy.
  • Utilize high-fidelity models to conduct risk reduction activities and establish technical requirements for future versions of mechanisms.
  • Create and maintain low-fidelity surrogate models for larger, integrated system simulations.
  • Execute rapid-turnaround tasks (2–3-week cycles) to support sponsor-driven studies, delivering results via plots and presentations.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance and updates to the project’s primary simulation environment.
  • Participate in vendor meetings and technical reviews to absorb critical design information.
  • Act as a flexible resource within a small team, providing overlap and support for other GNC functions.
  • Translate complex simulation data into clear, concise plots and PowerPoint presentations.

What You Will Do

This role is critical for the risk reduction and requirement-definition phase of the project's mechanisms.

  • High-Fidelity Modeling: Maintain, modify, and develop high-fidelity behavioral simulations of electromechanical actuators and sensors.
  • Model Validation: Tune and validate simulations against actual testbed data to ensure physical accuracy.
  • Risk Reduction & Requirements: Utilize high-fidelity models to conduct risk reduction activities and establish technical requirements for future versions of mechanisms.
  • System Integration: Create and maintain low-fidelity "surrogate" models that approximate actuator behavior for use in larger, integrated system simulations.
  • Study Support: Execute rapid-turnaround tasks (2–3-week cycles) to support sponsor-driven studies, delivering results via plots and presentations.
  • Simulation Maintenance: Provide ongoing maintenance and updates to the project’s primary simulation environment to ensure stability for other project stakeholders.
  • Vendor Technical Integration: Participate in vendor meetings and technical reviews to absorb critical design information, ensuring that behavioral models accurately reflect external hardware and software specifications.
  • Technical Versatility: Act as a flexible resource within a small team, providing overlap and support for other GNC functions as bandwidth requires.
  • Communication: Translate complex simulation data into clear, concise plots and PowerPoint presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

The salary range for this role is 118,300 USD - 224,900 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
