Job summary

AdventHealth in Orlando seeks a patient registration specialist to greet and register patients, verify insurance information and authorizations, and collect required documents for accurate upfront estimates.

You will input demographics, verify armband data, and support peak times while coordinating with departments to maintain smooth patient flow and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Register patients for services and verify insurance details and authorization requirements

  • Review physician orders to confirm patient information and clinician signatures
  • Direct patients to appropriate areas and monitor lobby to meet needs
  • Manage clerical tasks and support daily operations; monitor insurance reimbursements

Job Description:

Registers patients for services and ensures accuracy in insurance identification, selection, and authorization requirements. Obtains required patient documents from in-house patients or appropriate representatives. Creates accurate good faith estimates to maximize upfront cash collections and add collection documentation as needed. Maintains schedule flexibility and arranges continual coverage of assigned workstations to promptly assist customers. Properly identifies patients to ensure armband accuracy, inputs demographic information, and secures required forms for compliance. Supports registration staff during peak times to ensure timely processing of patients through system protocols. Screens and directs faxes, document copies, and assists in obtaining patient prescriptions when applicable. Reviews physician orders and scripts to verify patient information and clinician signatures. Directs customers to the appropriate area within departments, and assesses the lobby periodically to meet patient and visitor needs. Manages clerical duties and assigned projects, supports daily operational flow, and monitors timely account classification related to insurance reimbursements. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA privacy rules and adroit ability to use discretion when discussing patient related information that is confidential in nature [Required]
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and database programs [Required]
  • Ability to operate general office machines, such as, computers, facsimiles, copiers, and scanners [Required]
  • Ability to effectively learn and perform multiple tasks and organize work in a systematic and efficient fashion [Required]
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing [Required]
  • Ability to be responsive to ever-changing matrix of hospital needs and act accordingly [Required]
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and procedures with close attention to detail [Required]

  • Utilizes strong customer service skills with a pleasing personality that puts people at ease [Required]

  • Knowledge of computer programs, such as Cerner [Preferred]

  • Exposure to insurance benefits; ability to decipher insurance benefit information [Preferred]
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish [Preferred]
