Job summary

The Health Museum in Houston, also known as The John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science, seeks a store operations professional to oversee daily retail functions and guest experiences.

You will manage front desk, gift shop, and exhibits, handle cash/credit transactions, and drive sales with a guest-focused approach. Qualifications include a high school diploma (Associate’s preferred), 2+ years in retail with cash handling, and experience with Shopify/Altru.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of retail experience with cash handling skills.
• Self-motivated, enjoys customer interaction and leadership roles.
• Experience with e-commerce/POS platforms; Shopify and Altru preferred.
• Non-profit/museum experience is a plus; supervisory or lead experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in daily museum store operations; ensure smooth opening/closing.
• Oversee guest experience across front desk, gift shop and exhibits.
• Manage POS systems (Altru, Shopify) and in-person transactions.
• Reconcile daily sales and prepare deposits; upsell and promote programs.
• Ensure staff adherence to cash handling and safety procedures.
• Promote programs, memberships and events to guests.
