Job summary

Montserrat is seeking a GTP Workshop Assistant to support day-to-day operations in the Visual Communication Design space. You will work with monitors to complete tasks, assist with plush, figures, board games, puppets, electronics and video game hardware, and participate in events like Game Jam and Pitch Fest.

Ideal candidates are 2nd semester freshmen or sophomores who enjoy tinkering, staying organized, and working safely with materials.

Title: GTP Workshop Assistant

Department: Visual Communication Design (VCD)

Supervisor: Brandon Troelstrup

Hours needed each week: 5 hours/week

Term: Spring 2027

Pay: $15/hour

Summary: The GTP Workshop Assistant is a studio generalist who assists in the day-to-day operations of the GTP Workshop space. They work alongside monitors to get tasks done in a timely manner while supplying any assistance for their studio users. Students will be working with plush, figures, board games, puppets, electronics and video game hardware. Assistants actively participate in the Game Jam and Pitch Fest as well as a host of other collaborative, creative projects.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

• Assist students with Q&A, managing studio equipment, ensuring correct function of software and maintaining a clean and friendly studio environment.
• Train patrons new to sewing, prototyping and hand fabrication tools.
• Ensure all students follow safety and proper procedures when using equipment.
• Help with ongoing organization of studio materials, tool inventory, clean up and management of purchased and donated materials.
• Help develop, communicate, and enforce policies for organization, access, and cleanup of the studio.
• Collaborate in ongoing creative projects with monitors and other assistants.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

• Work in a studio setting, using various non-toxic materials and tools.
• Manual dexterity to use hand tools and equipment.
• Strength to lift tools and materials (around 35 lb).
