Job summary

Woodland Park Academy seeks a GSRP Classroom Support Staff (Aide) to assist lead teachers in a preschool setting. The role spans Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Wednesdays with specific start times, supporting students and maintaining safety and program standards.

Requirements include a high school diploma (CDA preferred) and prior experience with toddlers in a childcare/education setting. Strong communication, teamwork, and reliability are essential for daily classroom duties.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provides program support in instructional activities in GSRP classrooms.
• Follows regulations in the GSRP Manual and licensing programs.
• Engages with students to promote vocabulary and expressive language.
• Assists in classroom management using PBIS and non-instructional tasks.
• Supports IEP goals for students with disabilities.
• Supervises students actively in classroom and outdoors.
• Works with Lead/Associate teachers to plan activities.
• Participates in staff meetings and professional development.

Reports To: GSRP Director

Job Function: To support and assist Lead and Associate Teachers in GSRP classroom Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 7:40am - 3:40pm, Wednesday 9:00am - 3:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• ● High School diploma or equivalent required. College coursework in Child Development, Education, Preschool
• CDA preferred.

Experience:

• ● Work experience in a childcare or educational program with toddlers preferred. Work experience with children with
• disabilities preferred.

General Requirements/Skills/Other: Must be able to pass a TB test, and to obtain a satisfactory national sex offender registry and criminal history check through district and State of Michigan's childcare licensing fingerprinting. Ability to work creatively and communicate effectively with students. Works successfully as a member of a team. Ability to use district technology and maintain proficiency as required. Represents the district in a professional manner at all times, including following the district's dress code. Communicate professionally, effectively and in a timely fashion. Maintains a positive working relationship with families, staff, and other stakeholders. Follows district health and safety procedures. Demonstrate physical stamina necessary for assisting young children. Repetitive stooping, squatting, bending, lifting, walking, kneeling and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability are required. Implement established behavior improvement intervention plans and perform the essential job duties. Punctuality and attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to work flexible workdays, work week, and work year. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to maintain a calm, poised, and professional image. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.

Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):

1. Provides program support in instructional and related activities in the GSRP classrooms.
2. Follows all regulations pertaining to the GSRP Implementation Manual, Michigan Childcare Licensing and Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) or School Lunch Program.
3. Engages with all students in a way that promotes positive interaction, development of vocabulary and expressive language.
4. Assists in classroom management using Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and other non-instructional functions.
5. Assists with the implementation of instructional activities based on student goals and objectives as written in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students with disabilities.
6. Engages in outdoor experiences in accordance with the State of Michigan's Childcare Licensing Rules.
7. Assists students with health and physical needs and personal care routines including toilet training, diapering, and eating.
8. Assists with meals, planned activities, outdoor experiences and other activities, as required.
9. Works as a team with the Lead and Associate teachers to plan activities in the classroom, large motor area, and playground.
10. Understands and implements the program’s social emotional and PBIS strategies consistently when encountering challenging student behavior.
11. Actively supervises students at all times. Uses active supervision strategies consistently throughout the building, classroom, and outdoors.
12. Assists with health and safety protocols to keep children from harm.
13. Uses assigned computer applications as required to document attendance, meal counts, communication, etc.

17. Participates in home visits and parent teacher conferences when appropriate.
18. Works collaboratively with other staff members to best support the student and family. This includes the Lead Teacher, Early Childhood Specialist and Associate Teacher.
19. Conforms to the GISD Standards of Conduct.
20. Participates in staff meetings, professional development activities, and other training as assigned (virtual and in-person).
21. Completes virtual training within the designated time frame.
22. Maintains confidentiality of students, families, co-workers and workplace.
23. Participates in a cycle of professional growth with Administration and Early Childhood Specialist that includes an annual evaluation and professional development plan.
24. Uses Restorative Practices and other research-based models for conflict resolution with co-workers or stakeholders.
25. Engages in Restorative Practices.

Other Duties:

1. Uses technology to communicate with staff.
2. Assists in preparing student displays, duplicating materials and other material preparation activities in the assigned area of responsibility.
3. Operates standard school equipment, such as laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned.
5. Follows policies and procedures of local school district when applicable.
