RATE OF PAY: $17.39 - $19.57 DOQ

JOB SUMMARY

Associate teacher assists the lead teacher in planning and implementing a healthy, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool children that promote developmental gains toward the attainment of kindergarten readiness skills as defined in the Early Learning Framework, and GSRP Implementation Manual, within a MTSS framework. The associate teacher will establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with other program staff, families, and community partners to achieve positive student outcomes to ensure equitable educational excellence.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Associate degree in early childhood education or child development equivalent or valid classroom CDA credential preferred or 120-hour approval
  • Ability to work with children of varying abilities and backgrounds
  • Regular and consistent attendance
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience and relevant training in Creative Curriculum for Preschool
  • Willingness to be trained in CPR, Non-violent Crisis Intervention techniques, and necessary medical procedures
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and non-verbally
  • Must maintain confidentiality
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Must have knowledge of and comply with GSRP Implementation Manual, and State of Michigan Licensing for Child Care Centers
  • Assists with creating and implementing curriculum/lesson plans which incorporate hands-on activities and experiential learning considering factors such as individual needs, abilities learning levels and physical limitations of students
  • Creates a flexible environment that is focused on student success to maximize potential
  • Utilizes student assessment data to inform whole group, small group, and individualized instruction
  • Implements program assessment tools with fidelity
  • Establishes effective communication with parents regarding the progress of students and includes them in setting curricular goals for their child
  • Implements Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) in the classroom
  • Supporting and following the leadership of the lead teacher in the classroom
  • Assists with maintaining accurate and up-to-date child records and lesson plans
  • Establish a safe, healthy, stimulating and developmentally appropriate learning environment for all children
  • Assists with observing and assessing children’s development on a regular basis, analyze data and make plans or referrals specific to the needs of the individual child
  • Build positive relationships with families to promote positive parent/child relationships including family events in the classroom and program, and take-home activities
  • Work with program staff to provide comprehensive services to families and children
  • Takes on the lead teacher role during occasional absences
  • Assists students with self-care and hygiene needs
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasionally the employee will type for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance and punctuality are an expectation of the position. Some driving is required both in and out of District; and therefore, transportation is necessary. Some extended hours and multiple demands for several people are frequently required of the employee.
