This role will own growth in the government market. At a high level, the role is focused on building new pipeline across state, county, and municipal agencies, and on growing the existing government relationships the business depends on. The ideal candidate arrives with a trusted network of government buyers, sells credibly alongside the consulting team that delivers the work, and understands what it takes to win and keep public‑sector contracts compliantly.
Key responsibilities:
- Build and fill the pipeline. Prospect and open new state and local accounts, with particular focus on public safety (police, fire, corrections), civil service and human resources agencies.
- Steward key relationships with a focus on continued growth and expansion.
- Sell consultatively. Position testing, assessment, and talent solutions as business outcomes for agencies: fair, defensible selection and promotion, workforce planning and leadership development.
- Partner with the Consulting Team to develop proposals and scopes, set realistic delivery expectations, and stay involved through implementation to ensure renewals.
- Navigate procurement and compliance. Lead responses to RFPs and RFQs, use cooperative purchasing vehicles and sole-source justifications where appropriate, and manage contract, security, accessibility, and legal-defensibility requirements.
- Forecast and report. Own pipeline, forecast accuracy and quota attainment, and report on the SLED market to leadership.
- Represent the company in the market. Attend and present at government HR, public safety, and procurement associations and conferences as appropriate.
Required qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience selling testing, assessment, or talent solutions to federal, state, and/or local government entities, or an equivalent skill set built through consulting or business development in the public sector.
- An established network of state and local government contacts, with a track record of turning those relationships into signed contracts.
- Working knowledge of public‑sector procurement: RFP and RFQ processes, cooperative contracts, contract vehicles, and approval cycles at the agency, city, and state level.
- Understanding of what compliance looks like in government hiring and testing, including legal defensibility of selection procedures, civil service rules, and accessibility and data‑security expectations.
- Knowledge of consulting engagements in the public safety sector and of large‑scale test administration (scheduling, proctoring, test security, high‑volume candidate processing).
- Bachelor's degree in psychology or a master's in industrial‑organizational (IO) psychology preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Commercially driven: a history of meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
Preferred qualifications:
- Direct experience in the human capital or talent solutions space, ideally selling selection, promotion, or assessment‑center services to public safety agencies.
- Experience selling or delivering exam‑based services for selection and promotion.
- Familiarity with professional standards in selection and assessment, and the ability to speak credibly to IO psychologists on the buyer side.
- Willingness to travel regularly to customer sites and industry events.
