Job summary

UPMC Orthopaedic Surgery at Mercy Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Foot & Ankle team. Hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm with no evenings, weekends, or holidays. Will perform back office and front office duties; prior Medical Assistant experience preferred.

Applicants will be placed on the Medical Assistant Career Ladder based on experience and education. This role supports patient care and administrative tasks in a busy orthopaedic setting at Mercy Hospital.

Qualifications

• Previous Medical Assistant experience preferred.
• Experience with back office and front office duties.
• Ability to perform phlebotomy and EKGs as part of daily tasks.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient medical records per HIPAA and regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referrals; schedule appointments; verify insurance and demographics.
• Prepare and manage patient charts; maintain infection control; manage inventory of supplies.
• Check schedules and organize patient flow; accompany patients to exam rooms; assist with transfers.
• Collect patient information/history; take vitals; perform screenings per provider guidelines.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; assist physicians with procedures; document in medical record.
• Comply with OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health; maintain confidentiality; follow UPМС Health System policies.
• Under supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.
