Job summary

Alpaca is seeking a Staff Data Scientist, Growth to own how we measure and grow across the full customer journey—from acquisition to monetization. You will set the technical direction, build our experimentation and metrics platform, and collaborate with Product, Marketing, Sales, and Engineering to drive impact.

This greenfield charter rewards ownership, with a focus on funnels, cohorts, and causal inference, and aims to make growth analytics self-serve for the entire company.

Qualifications

• Proven expertise in growth analytics and data science with strong statistical analysis and experimentation.
• Hands-on experience with growth/funnel analytics—acquisition, activation, retention, LTV/CAC, cohort analytics.
• Experience designing experimentation tooling and frameworks for trustworthy A/B tests and causal-inference analyses.
• Familiarity with marketing measurement—attribution, incrementality, or marketing-mix modeling is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the growth funnel end-to-end: analyze acquisition, activation, retention, referral, and monetization to find high-leverage opportunities.
• Build and run the growth experimentation engine, including A/B tests and causal studies across onboarding, nudges, pricing, and lifecycle campaigns.
• Model growth with retention and cohort analyses, churn/LTV, CAC/payback, and forecasts of core metrics to identify levers.
• Define and maintain activation, retention, engagement, and monetization metrics and a clear North Star for growth.
• Embed cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, and Finance to shape strategy and roadmaps.
• Turn data into narratives with compelling visualizations for cross-functional partners and senior leadership.
• Enable self-serve analytics to empower teams to access insights without heavy ad-hoc requests.
• Mentor and set standards, contributing to best practices and a data-informed growth culture.
