Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is hiring a Group Exercise Instructor to lead energizing, safe classes in a welcoming environment at the Farmington Family YMCA in Farmington Hills, MI. You will teach formats that emphasize strength, stability, and balance while upholding the YMCA mission.

Required certifications include CPR/First Aid/AED and a national trainer credential; completion of YMCA Healthy Lifestyles within 60 days is expected.

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid, AED required; national certification in personal training listed above.
• 1 year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
• Completion of YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire.
• Proven knowledge of exercise science, movement coaching, and movement competency.

Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, fun, safe group classes aligned with YMCA mission.
• Answers questions from participants and members within scope of knowledge.
• Maintains working knowledge of wellness trends to provide info and support to members.
• Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
• Performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.

General Function

The Group Ex Instructor will be responsible for instructing group training classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels.

Elite Group Exercise is a group-training program that delivers the best in fitness workouts – Strength training, Stability training, and Balance training.

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

• Required certifications: Area of Expertise, CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, ISSA, NASM, NESTA, NETA, NPTI, NSCA) in personal training

• 1 year of experience teaching group wellness classes is preferred, not required

• Proven knowledge of exercise science, movement coaching, and movement competency

• Completion of YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire

• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed, to accomplish YMCA mission and goals
