Job summary

Family YMCA of Marion & Polk Counties is seeking a dedicated group fitness instructor to lead classes in a safe, engaging environment aligned with YMCA core values. You will model Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility while helping members achieve healthier lifestyles.

Applicants should hold CPR/First Aid/AED and a national group fitness certification, with 1+ year experience preferred. Reliable transportation and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Must hold CPR, First Aid, AED and national certification in group fitness or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise.
• One year of group wellness class experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead energizing, safe, and educational group classes as directed by supervisor.
• Answer member questions and support wellness goals with current knowledge of wellness trends.
• Build authentic member relationships and help connect members with the YMCA community.
• Maintain accurate class attendance records.
• Follow YMCA policies, procedures, and safety protocols including emergency response.

Requirements

Entry Requirements

• Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction, or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification. Certification in areas of expertise.


• YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire.


• At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes is preferred.

Physical/Mental Requirements

• Ability to conduct classes and activities.


• Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.

Essential Functions

1. Must be reliable, prompt, and practice excellent attendance.


2. Adhere to check in and check out policies.


3. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.


4. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.


5. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.


6. Keeps accurate class attendance records.


7. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
