Job summary

YMCA of Central New Mexico is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead inclusive, engaging fitness classes and foster a welcoming environment for all members and participants.

The role requires current group fitness certification, CPR/First Aid/AED, and at least one year of experience delivering classes. You will adapt to varied health needs and advocate for healthy living in a community-focused setting.

Qualifications

• National certification in group fitness instruction (e.g., ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) or YMCA group exercise instructor certification.
• Certification in area of expertise required.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.
• Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire.
• At least one year of experience teaching group exercise classes.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
• Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Responsibilities

• Creates a safe environment where all individuals feel welcomed and respected; builds relationships with and among members and participants.
• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes aligned with healthy living goals.
• Adjusts instruction to accommodate varying health needs and abilities.
• Answers questions with empathy to help participants achieve health and wellness goals.
• Identifies and celebrates member successes.
• Maintains knowledge of wellness trends to support members.
• Keeps accurate class attendance records.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Follows YMCA policies, including safety and child protection procedures.
