Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead engaging, safe fitness classes that support the health and wellness of members. You will create a welcoming environment, demonstrate proper techniques, and adapt to various fitness levels.

This role requires current CPR/First Aid/AED certifications and primary group fitness certifications. A collaborative, service-oriented approach is essential for success in a dynamic YMCA setting.

Qualifications

• Must be CPR, First Aid and AED certified and complete child abuse prevention training on hire.
• Previous experience teaching group exercise classes preferred.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Primary Group Fitness Certifications required (ACE, AFAA, NASM, Les Mills) and/or specialty certifications.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead safe, effective, and engaging group exercise classes in accordance with organizational standards.
• Demonstrate and provide clear instruction on proper exercise techniques and modifications for different fitness levels.
• Create a positive, inclusive class environment encouraging participation and engagement.
• Monitor participant safety and respond to injuries or emergencies.
• Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled classes; set up and return equipment as needed.
• Maintain current certifications and comply with safety, risk management, and training policies.
• Communicate effectively with participants, staff, and supervisors regarding program needs and concerns.
• Promote programs, events, and wellness initiatives to members as appropriate.
• Maintain a clean and safe exercise environment before, during, and after classes.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required; follow all YMCA policies and procedures.
