Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead engaging, safe fitness classes that support members' health and wellness. You will create a welcoming atmosphere, deliver high-quality instruction, and ensure participants exercise safely across various fitness levels.

Responsibilities include planning, demonstrating techniques, and maintaining certifications while promoting YMCA programs and fostering community engagement within the facility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training upon hire.
• Primary Group Fitness Certifications (ACE, AFAA, NASM, Les Mills) and/or specialty certifications.
• Previous experience teaching group exercise classes preferred.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Ability to promote safety and inclusivity in class environments.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead safe, engaging group exercise classes in accordance with organizational standards and guidelines.
• Demonstrate proper exercise techniques with modifications for all fitness levels.
• Create an inclusive class environment that encourages member participation and engagement.
• Monitor participant safety and respond to injuries or emergencies as needed.
• Arrive prepared for scheduled classes, including setting up equipment.
• Maintain current certifications and comply with safety policies and procedures.
• Communicate program needs and participant concerns with staff and supervisors.
• Promote YMCA programs and wellness initiatives to members.
• Maintain a clean and safe exercise space before, during, and after classes.
