Job summary

Channel Islands YMCA is seeking an experienced Group Exercise Instructor to lead fitness classes at the Ventura YMCA location. You will implement aerobic and mind-body sessions, develop class routines, and promote programs to members. A commitment to excellent customer service and community engagement is expected.

Qualifications include being 18+, a high school diploma, and nationally recognized group exercise certifications. Complete all required trainings within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Required nationally recognized group exercise certifications and/or specialized format certs.
• Complete certifications within the stated hire timelines.
• Complete branch and position trainings within two weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Implement aerobics, mind-body, or fitness classes.
• Teach classes; develop routines and choreography for participants.
• Promote YMCA programs to members and attendees.
• Record participant counts and collect program evaluations.
• Maintain minimum class attendance standards.
• Provide exceptional customer service and build member connections.
• Participate in in-service trainings as required.

What do Group Exercise Instructors do?

• Implement aerobics exercise, mind-body, or basic fitness classes
• Teach fitness classes; develop fitness routines, exercises, and choreography for participants
• Promote programs to members and participants
• Record participant counts, distribute and collect program evaluations
• Maintain minimum class attendance standard
• Provides exceptional customer service and fosters connections with members
• Participating and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Required certifications: Nationally Recognized Group Exercise Certification (ACE, NASM, ISSA, NETA, AFAA) and/or specialized format certification (SilverSneakers, Zumba, LesMills, etc.)
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
• Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire
• Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance
