Job summary

YMCA in Chicago is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead engaging fitness classes that align with YMCA standards and promote wellness and community strength. You will design safe, effective programs, monitor member progress, and maintain class equipment and attendance records.

The role requires basic fitness knowledge, at least 25 hours of practical instructor experience, and ability to motivate participants. 18+ with child-safety training completes the profile.

Qualifications

• Must have basic knowledge of fitness or equivalent work/education experience.
• Experience with multiple formats.
• Must have at minimum 25 hours of practical experience as a fitness class instructor.
• Must be able to lead a fitness class and motivate and educate members in the field of physical fitness.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Child Abuse Prevention – complete training as required.

Responsibilities

• Plans and instructs fitness classes with a personalized approach following YMCA standards.
• Designs and implements safe, effective and enjoyable fitness programs for members.
• Observes and discusses individual progress with participants; builds rapport.
• Keeps accurate records of attendance and progress.
• Sets up and takes down class equipment; reports equipment problems.
• Promotes YMCA programs and motivates long-term participation.
• Responds to accidents, incidents and equipment issues.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; maintains current certifications.
• Supports the YMCA’s mission and center operations.
