Job summary

Almstead Tree & Shrub Care Company is seeking a dedicated Groundsperson to support climbing crews in the NY, NJ, and CT tri-state area. You will assist in pruning, rigging, and take-downs, operate ground equipment, and help maintain safety on-site. Prior tree care experience is a plus; training is available.

Qualifications

• Groundsperson role experience preferred, but training provided.
• Ability to lift 50lbs and occasionally 80-100lbs with assistance.
• Valid Driver’s License; CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform ground duties in support of crew assignments as directed by the crew leader.
• Assist in pruning, rigging, and take-downs; install cabling and bracing as needed.
• Safely operate equipment and participate in job site safety briefings.
• Perform felling, limbing, and bucking with a chainsaw as required.
• Prune from ground using hand tools and pole saws with proper rigging techniques and knots.
• Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties.
• Set up and clean up job sites as required.

Basic Function

Groundsperson serve a pivotal role on tree care crews, with the primary responsibility of assisting the climbers and crew leader in the performance of all general tree work services.

Responsibilities

• Perform all required ground duties in support of specific job assignments, as directed by crew leader.
• Assist in the performance of specialized pruning and take‑downs, installing cabling and bracing.
• Safely operate equipment.
• Participate in all job site safety briefings.
• Perform proper felling, limbing and bucking techniques with a chainsaw.
• Perform pruning from the ground with hand tools and pole saws, application of approved rigging techniques and knowledge of standard knots.
• Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties.
• Perform ground duties such as job site set up and clean up as required.

• Previous industry experience is desired, but willing to train right candidate.
• Knowledge of pruning techniques including large shade trees and ornamentals.
• Ability to operate chainsaw, chipper, stump grinder and log mover.
• Knowledge of industry standard rigging techniques and knots
• Knowledge of native and introduced tree and shrub species and characteristics of each species is desired.
• Ability to lift 50lbs and occasionally 80-100lbs with assistance
• Valid Driver’s License, CDL preferred.
• Bi‑lingual is a plus
