Job summary

Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD is seeking a grounds maintenance technician to perform a range of turf, landscape, and outdoor facility tasks across campus.

Responsibilities

• Maintains grounds: cultivation, planting, watering, weeding, mowing, pruning.
• Assists in outdoor fields and athletic facility maintenance.
• Plants shrubs, trees, flowers according to plans.
• Removes dirt, trash, and debris to disposal facility.
• Removes snow/ice using hand and power equipment; spreads salt and sand.
• Operates mowers, tillers, sweepers, snow blowers, edgers, shovels.
• Measures and applies fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides per instructions.
• Incumbents perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

• Performs grounds maintenance activities including cultivating, planting, watering, fertilizing, weeding, mowing, and/or pruning lawn, gardens, shrubs, and trees.
• Assists in the maintenance of outdoor fields and athletic facilities.
• Plants shrubs, trees, flowers, and vegetation following detailed plans and directions.
• Removes dirt, trash, and debris from assigned areas and transports the same to the appropriate disposal facility.
• Performs removal of snow and ice from assigned areas using hand and power snow removal equipment. Spreads salt, sand, and deicers to prevent slipping.
• Operates hand and power equipment such as mowers, tillers, sweepers, snow blowers, edgers, shovels, and small vehicles. Performs routine assembly, cleaning, and maintenance of equipment as needed.
• Measures, mixes, and applies fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals following specific instructions.
