Job summary

Spokane Public Schools seeks a Groundskeeper/Custodian to install, repair, and maintain district grounds and landscaped areas. The role is a continuing position with early start times and a stated start ASAP; duties include lawn care, beds, fertilizers, and snow removal, with safety rules observed.

The successful candidate should have experience with power tools, ability to lift 50 pounds, and a valid WA driver's license; a pesticide license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
• Related work experience; e.g., parks, golf course, large industrial.
• Horticulture experience; e.g., trees, shrubs, flower beds.
• Ability to handle power equipment such as mowers, edgers, sod cutters, pruning equipment, and snow blowers.
• Physical strength to perform strenuous outside work. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Valid Washington State pesticide spray license preferred.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
• Demonstrated ability to relate and work effectively with a diverse group of co-workers and staff in a positive and professional manner.
• Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.
• Ability to read blueprints preferred.
• Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Work with hand tools to dig ditches, trenches, and other excavations.
• Maintain shrub beds, flower beds, lawns, and other required area.
• Apply fertilizers andweed and ground sprays as required.
• Remove, transfer, and lay sod as needed.
• Operate power tools and equipment including trucks, tractors, etc.
• Handle power equipment such as mowers, edgers, sod cutters, and pruning equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance work on grounds such as aerating, trimming, pruning, seeding as required.
• Perform in snow removal as assigned.
• Observe safety rules and regulations at all times.
• Perform related duties as requested by supervisor.
