Job Description

Responsible for the overall general grounds maintenance of city-owned grounds, parks, and recreation facilities. Perform landscaping, mowing, fertilizing, and grounds maintenance tasks.

Typical Duties

• Maintain city-owned grounds, parks, trails, cemeteries, open spaces, and recreation facilities, including mowing, aerating, weeding, cleaning restrooms, trash pickup, raking leaves, clearing sidewalks, debris removal, and assisting with planting and sprinkler systems.
• Operate various handheld and mechanical equipment such as mowers, sweepers, blowers, and possibly heavy landscaping equipment (without requiring a Commercial Driver’s License).
• Operate vehicles, irrigation systems, and perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Assist with the application of fertilizers, herbicides, and other chemicals for turf and landscaping care.
• Prepare areas for public use, inspect and clean areas affected by unauthorized camping, and collaborate with city and county agencies as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to travel to various Parks and Public Lands facilities, possibly using a personal or city vehicle with a valid driver’s license.
• Must be at least 16 years old.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in maintenance and landscaping.
• Experience working for a city municipal park.
• Experience operating light or heavy-duty equipment.

Working Conditions

• Moderately heavy physical activity required, including lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 80 lbs. Must be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods. Exposure to weather, noise, dust, fumes, and other environmental conditions is routine.
• Occasional exposure to stress due to human behavior.
