Job summary

University of California, Davis is seeking a Groundskeeper to provide ground maintenance and outdoor custodial services for campus grounds. The role includes basic service, inspection, and maintenance of equipment and tools on site.

The position is 100% on-site at UC Davis, with shifts Mon-Fri or Tue-Sat, 5am-1:30pm or 6am-2:30pm. Salary ranges from $26.69 to $35.20 per hour, bi-weekly pay, and benefits eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid California driver’s license and enroll in the CA Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • No minimum education required.
  • Experience performing grounds maintenance tasks (vegetation, landscaping, pesticide applications).
  • Experience operating equipment such as mowers and hand/power tools.
  • Knowledge of tree, plant and weed identification.
  • Knowledge of chemical weed control.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment inspection and basic maintenance.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, provide ground maintenance and outdoor custodial services for Campus grounds. Provide basic service, inspection and maintenance of equipment and assigned tools.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • No minimum education required.
  • Experience performing grounds maintenance tasks such as planting and maintenance of vegetation, landscaping duties or pesticide applications.
  • Experience operating a variety of equipment such as mowers, manual transmission vehicles, hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of tree, plant and weed identification.
  • Knowledge of chemical weed control.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment in order to check for possible problems to avoid damage to equipment prior to starting such as checking gas and oil levels or recognizing mechanical problems which may occur during operation.
  • Customer service and communication skills to provide courteous service in person and on the telephone.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with administration, staff, visitors and volunteers, using tact, diplomacy, and good judgment during all interactions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of valid California Qualified Applicator Certificate.
  • Experience working as a groundskeeper in an educational or institutional setting.

Department Overview

Grounds Services is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of outdoor space including landscape, roadways, walkways, and signage throughout Campus. This position performs basic grounds maintenance and assigned tasks for a designated Campus area.

Work Environment
