Job summary

College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL is seeking a full-time Groundskeeper to maintain the campus landscape across mulched beds, turf, and hardscape areas. You will operate standard grounds equipment, perform mowing, edging, trimming, and assist in irrigation and field prep.

Starting pay is $20.03 per hour, year-round schedule with benefits and PTO. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and at least six months in turf maintenance or snow removal; a Pesticide license and valid IL

Qualifications

  • Six months experience in turf maintenance, landscaping, or snow removal.
  • Illinois Pesticide Operators license required within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License required.
  • Experience in grounds equipment repair preferred.
  • Illinois Pesticide Operators license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain turf grass by mowing, trimming, weeding, and repairs.
  • Operate landscape equipment and perform minor repairs.
  • Apply herbicides and pesticides per safety protocols.
  • Assist in irrigation programming and athletic field prep.
  • Coordinate with end users and other facilities staff; perform daily work orders.
  • Respond to emergencies and observe safety procedures.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Under immediate supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in all aspects of landscape maintenance including repair, demolition, construction, installation, and care of plants, trees, hardscapes, turf and related equipment.

Participates in tree, plant, and turf maintenance, installation and care. Installs and maintains all types of pavers and hardscapes. Uses landscaping industry standard equipment and tools to perform assigned duties. Mows, trims, weeds and repairs turf grass. Mixes and applies chemical herbicides and pesticides. Participates in snow removal operations. Performs maintenance and repairs on college owned equipment and tools. Coordinates daily work with end users, subcontractors, and other facilities staff. Occasionally performs minor cement or asphalt patching on sidewalk and parking lots. Erects regulatory and information signing. Occasionally supports the work of building maintenance. Occasionally maintains mowing and equipment maintenance records. Assists in the irrigation system programming, maintenance and repair. Assists in Athletic field Maintenance and field preparation for games. Daily outdoor trash pickup and removal. Daily creation and completion of work orders. Occasionally supervises temporary worker and/or student workers. Required to report to work during emergency conditions and may be assigned to report to college personnel at a different time and location and to perform different duties as necessary. Annually responsible for 4 documented hours of continuous learning through seminars, classroom training or conferences. Performs work safely in accordance with facilities department safety procedures, protocols and the College of DuPage safety program. Completes college required training sessions. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Education
    • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience
    • Six months experience in turf maintenance, landscaping, or snow removal required.
    • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in required duties.
    • Illinois Pesticide Operators license required within 6 months of hire.
    • Valid Illinois Driver's License required.
    • Experience in grounds equipment repair preferred.
    • Illinois Pesticide Operators license preferred.

Working Conditions

Knowledge of grounds equipment including mowers, trimmers, and all types of vehicles, and the upkeep and repair of all equipment and tools. Required to participate in winter snow activities. Must be able to lift 50+ pounds. Must be able to bend, reach, and work on hands and knees if necessary. Uniform appearance must be clean and in good wear. Must wear solid soled shoes. Usually good conditions, but could be exposed to harsh weather and long hours in emergency situations. Position requires extensive walking and the ability to climb stairs and ladders. Required uniforms supplied by the College of DuPage. Must pass physical exam at College expense. This position requires a background check and drug screen.

Hiring Range

Starting pay beginning at $20.03/hourly, based on experience.

The is a YEAR ROUND position; steady weekly schedule all year round, benefits and PTO available.
