Job summary

Hempstead ISD is seeking a Grounds Worker / Groundskeeper to maintain safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing landscaping across district properties. Reports to the Maintenance Director or Grounds Foreman, with duties including lawn care, landscaping, athletic field maintenance, and irrigation system checks.

Required: high school diploma or GED, experience in groundskeeping, valid driver’s license, and ability to work outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience: Prior experience in commercial groundskeeping or landscaping.
• Licenses: Valid driver’s license.
• Physical Demands: Outdoor work in extreme weather; lift/carry 45–50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Lawn and turf care: mow, edge, trim lawns, fertilize, aerate, seed, weed control.
• Landscaping: plant, prune, mulch beds, care for trees/shrubs/flowers.
• Athletic field maintenance: prepare fields for games, chalk lines, paint stripes.
• Grounds upkeep: empty trash, pick up litter, pressure wash concrete surfaces.
• Irrigation and repairs: inspect/clean sprinkler systems and drainage areas.
• Equipment maintenance: maintain mowers, tractors, weed eaters and hand tools.
• Safety and compliance: follow OSHA and district safety protocols when operating equipment.
