Job summary

Florida State University in Tallahassee is seeking a Facilities - Grounds team member to perform routine groundskeeping tasks across campus, including mowing, edging, raking, mulching and plant care. You will help keep outdoor spaces clean, safe, and presentable.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to work outside in varying weather, and a valid driver’s license. Training and proper safety procedures are provided to ensure a reliable campus environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of 9th grade or equivalent.
• Valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver’s License, or ability to obtain upon hire.
• Ability to stand, walk and work outside for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Performs groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, edging, raking, mulching, power blowing, weed eating, pulling weeds, light pruning, and watering plants. Responsible for debris removal, leaf removal, trash pickup and other tasks to keep grounds clean and presentable. Maintains areas by spreading landscape materials such as pine straw, bark, or rocks.
• Assists with landscaping tasks such as planting bushes, plants, shrubs, and trees. Assists in maintaining turf areas by utilizing push mowers to ensure an attractively landscaped environment on campus. Prepares landscaped areas with soil excavation, turf removal and resodding.
• Safely operates and maintains grounds equipment to ensure the health and appearance of university grounds. Ensures that all manual and power equipment is in proper working condition and reports maintenance needs to the supervisor. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor or higher authority.

Qualifications

• Completion of 9th Grade.

Considerations

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.

The work schedule is 7:00am to 3:30pm with a 30-minute break.
