Job summary

Florida State University is seeking a Tree Crew Operator in Tallahassee to perform tree care tasks, including trimming, pruning, planting, and possibly chainsaw work from a bucket truck. You'll operate various heavy equipment and be responsible for safety and maintenance of all gear.

The role supports the Facilities - Grounds department, ensuring a safe, clean, and sustainable campus landscape for students, faculty, and staff.

Qualifications

• Completion of ninth grade or equivalent.
• CDL Class B license or ability to obtain one on hire.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Tree trimming, pruning, planting, and care, including potential chainsaw use and bucket-truck operation.
• Operate heavy equipment such as 2-ton dump trucks, bucket trucks, grapple trucks, stump grinders, cranes, loaders, excavators, and tractors for tree work and campus maintenance.
• Ensure safety and maintenance of equipment, report problems to supervisor, and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
• Support landscape renovations and grounds projects as directed by supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for tree trimming, pruning, planting, and other aspects of tree care, potentially involving chainsaw operations, and operating from a bucket truck.
• Operates various specialized heavy equipment, including 2- ton dump truck, bucket trucks, grapple trucks, stump grinders, cranes, loaders, excavators, and tractors, for tree trimming, removal, and maintenance activities.
• Responsible for security, safety, and maintenance of all equipment, supplies, and vehicles. Ensures all manual and power equipment is in proper working condition and reports maintenance problems to the supervisor.
• Maintains a safe, clean, sustainable, and attractive landscaped environment for the students, faculty, and staff of our institution. Performs general groundskeeping maintenance tasks around buildings and on campus, including site preparation and cleanup. Assists with landscape renovations, Grounds projects, and other special duties as assigned by supervisor or higher authority.

Qualifications

• Completion of the ninth grade.
• A valid State of Florida or Georgia driver’s CDL Class B license or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
• Must have the ability to work outside for multiple hours, including extended periods of walking and standing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Candidates with the ability to operate basic tree care equipment are strongly preferred.
