Job summary

The Michelle Martin Group is seeking a Groundskeeper in Amelia, VA for an immediate start. This 100% on-site temporary role runs 8 am–5 pm, Monday–Friday, with pay at $17.50 per hour.

You will maintain grounds and headstones, support interments, and keep the cemetery area respectful and well-kept under supervision. Applicants should have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and 6 months of relevant experience, with the ability to operate common tools and work outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 months of relevant experience.
• Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment (shovel, rake, mower, blower).
• Ability to use basic measuring devices (tape measure, yard-stick).
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
• Physically agile and dexterous.
• Ability to operate equipment safely and with others.
• Ability to communicate effectively with associates and clients.
• Basic computer skills for email communications.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Mows grass, plows snow, waters lawns, fertilizes and trims shrubs, tends flowers, and inspects areas for standards.
• Operates lawn and grounds equipment such as mowers, snow blowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers.
• Removes debris and trash from grounds.
• May turn down vases and remove wilted flowers.
• Participates in team openings and closings for interments and entombments.
• May perform disinterment.
• May determine grave location and layout with assistance.
• May perform minor repairs to cemetery or building systems.
• Follow safety and regulatory procedures, including OSHA guidelines.

Job Summary:

As a Groundskeeper, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the grounds and headstones of the cemetery, and maintaining the overall appearance of the cemetery. This position requires dedication, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. You will work closely with the Cemetery Manager or Supervisor, following their instructions to ensure the cemetery remains a respectful and well-kept environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Mows grass, plows snow, waters lawns, fertilizes and trims shrubs, tends flower beds, and regularly inspects assigned work areas to ensure proper standards are maintained


• Operates lawn and grounds equipment, including push and power mowers, snow blowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, and other related power equipment


• Removes debris and trash from grounds.


• May include turning down vases and removing wilted flowers


• Participates in teams for openings and closings for interments, entombment, and inurnments


• May perform disinterment


• May determine the location and layout of individual graves with assistance, complying with verification procedures


• May perform minor repairs to the cemetery and or building systems


• Must follow safety rules and ensure compliance with the operating procedures of corporate, federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA regulations and Safety and Environmental guidelines

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent


• Minimum 6 months of relevant experience


• Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including, but not limited to a shovel, pick, rake, sledgehammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer, and leaf blower


• Ability to accurately use measuring devices (i.e., tape measure, yard-stick, etc.)


• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions


• Physically agile and dexterous


• Ability to operate equipment in a safe and careful manner


• Ability to effectively work with others to accomplish tasks


• Ability to communicate effectively with associates, contractor personnel, and client families


• Basic computer skills to enable retrieving and responding to email communications


• Must have a valid driver's license
