Job summary

Buena Vista University is seeking a reliable Groundskeeper to support routine care, maintenance, and appearance of university grounds on campus in Storm Lake, IA.

You will perform mowing, trimming, edging, tree and shrub maintenance, seasonal duties, and operate grounds equipment, while following safety procedures.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions on a university campus.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated basic mechanical skills and ability to safely operate grounds equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying and inclement weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform routine grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and general lawn care
• Maintain trees, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaped areas

Physical and Work Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment. May occasionally be required to lift and move up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and humidity.
• Ability to safely work around fertilizers, pesticides, cleaning agents, and other chemicals commonly used in grounds maintenance while utilizing required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Ability to tolerate exposure to common environmental conditions associated with outdoor work, including dust, pollen, grass, insects, and varying terrain.
• Ability to work flexible schedule as needed, including early mornings or weekends during peak seasons or weather events.
