Job summary

Maricopa Unified School District is seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain District grounds, fields and outside areas. This non-exempt, full-time position requires adhering to safety and maintenance standards while performing landscaping tasks.

Responsibilities include mowing, trimming, irrigation, herbicide/insecticide spraying, minor repairs, and responding to work orders. The role demands physical activity and the ability to operate hand tools and light/heavy equipment; a valid driver license is

Qualifications

• Knowledge of grounds keeping practices and techniques.
• Knowledge of general safety rules and techniques.
• Knowledge of tools and equipment used in grounds keeping activities.
• Knowledge of and skill to administer herbicides and insecticides.
• Skill in operating hand tools, mowers and other equipment.
• Skill in basic repair and maintenance techniques.
• Skill in troubleshooting mechanical issues and work orders.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and speech.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

GROUNDSKEEPER

Classification

Non-Exempt Classified Based on Experience, 40 hours a week, 12 month employee

Purpose Statement

To maintain grounds, fields and other outside areas of the District.

Principal Duties

• Dragging, Cleaning & Maintaining the District retention areas
• Substituting if necessary
• Mows grass, trims trees, operates a weed eater and performs other grounds keeping
• activities.
• Irrigates all sites and maintains/repairs sprinkler systems.
• Assists with spraying by administering herbicides and insecticides
• Assists with fertilization of fields and turf areas
• Inspects playground equipment and fences. Makes minor repairs when required.
• Operates hand tools and other light and heavy equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: (Minimum Qualifications)

• Driver Licencse (Required)
• High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
• 2 years of experience (Recommended)
• Herbicide/Insecticide Spray Licensure (Preferred or obtainable within 6-months of hire)
• Valid Arizona DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance card

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 20% walking, and 70% standing. The job is performed under with some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
