SUMMARY

Maintain an attractive, safe, clean, and secure school, related buildings, and adjacent grounds for students, staff, and the public.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Maintain and cares for district grounds.
• Cultivate soil as needed and plants seeds, trees and shrubbery under the direction of the Plant Manager.
• Prune trees and trims hedges to promote growth and improve appearance of grounds.
• Mow lawns and edges sidewalks with appropriate equipment.
• Fill with soil, gopher holes and any other uneven and hazardous areas of the grounds.
• Fertilize trees and shrubs on a regular semiannual basis.
• Report promptly major repairs needed on grounds equipment to supervisor.
• Connect and depose of leaves, chippings and refuse.
• Connect sprinkling equipment.
• Inspect shrubs and trees for evidence of disease or pests and treats with sprays or chemicals as needed.
• Maintain and recommends purchases of suitable supplies, tools and equipment used in maintaining grounds.
• Adjust and repairs such equipment as lawnmowers, sprinklers, and hedge shears.
• Plant seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings, and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce an attractive appearance.
• Assist with facility maintenance as needed.
• Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
• Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
• Other job related duties as assigned.

Education

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.

Minimum Experience

• Three (3) or more years of experience in grounds maintenance work.

Licensing

• Obtain and maintain valid Level I Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

Work is mainly performed in an indoor environment; moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); and moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, movement restrictions and intense noise.
