Job summary

Daviess County Fiscal Court is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker to care for parks, facilities, and equipment. You will perform mowing, operate tractors and mowers, and assist with special events such as ROMP and Christmas at Panther Creek.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, 1–3 months of related experience, and a valid driver’s license. You will work outdoors in varying weather and conditions, performing general labor as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily mowing, trimming, and grounds maintenance tasks.
  • Operates light equipment and vehicles such as tractors, trucks, mowers, and hand tools.
  • Performs cleaning of restrooms and litter pickup; handles waste disposal.
  • Maintains equipment and reports damages or supply needs to supervisor.
  • Supports events and seasonal activities (e.g., ROMP, Christmas events).
  • Performs snow and ice removal and other labor as needed.

Description

Summary/Objective:

Maintains buildings, grounds, and equipment for all county parks facilities, operates vehicles, and equipment such as mowers, weed trimmers, and tractors.

Essential Functions:
  • Performs daily mowing and trimming duties.
  • Operates light equipment and vehicles, including tractors, trucks, blowers, push and riding mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, and various hand tools.
  • Performs daily litter pickup and maintenance inspections of trash.
  • Performs athletic field maintenance for scheduled activities.
  • Works special events, including fireworks, ROMP, and Christmas at Panther Creek.
  • Operates trucks and machinery to dispose of garbage and refuse.
  • Keeps all grounds maintenance equipment clean, operable, and properly stored.
  • Informs Maintenance Supervisor of all damages, repair needs, and supply needs.
  • Provides all beautification such as tree trimming and pest control (license required)
  • Performs snow and ice removal.
  • Cleaning of restrooms.
  • Performs other general labor tasks as assigned.
Competency:
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Required education and experience: High school diploma or GED; one to three months related experience and/or training.

Additional eligibility qualifications: Valid driver's license.
