Job summary

Lakeside Chautauqua seeks a Groundskeeper to maintain the grounds, parks, and flowerbeds in a resort setting. You will be involved in planting, weeding, watering, mulching, pruning, and interacting with Lakeside guests while supporting the grounds team.

The role requires physical stamina, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance, and operation of irrigation systems and landscaping equipment. A high school diploma and a valid Ohio driver's license are preferred requirements.

Job Title: Groundskeeper
Department: Grounds
Reports To: Director of Municipal Services

Position Type: Full Time, Non-exempt

Pay: $18-$20 per hour, commensurate with experience

Summary

Lakeside takes pride in the beautiful gardens and landscaping on our grounds. If you enjoy being outside, then be a part of the Grounds Team; creating beauty and enjoying the fresh air. This person is responsible for maintaining all the Lakeside Chautauqua grounds, parks and flowerbeds in a resort setting. The team member is responsible for all phases of public garden maintenance and development: planting, weeding, watering, mulching, pruning, and interacting with Lakeside guests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uphold The Lakeside Association's Mission Statement and personally represent its goals and values at all times while on Lakeside grounds and while interacting with guests, residents, volunteers, and fellow associates.
  • Support Lakeside's four pillars of religion, education, cultural arts, and recreation by maintaining safe, welcoming, and aesthetically pleasing grounds and gardens that encourage community engagement and lifelong learning.
  • Receive oral and written work assignments from the Director of Horticulture or an assigned supervisor and complete assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner. Report work accomplished orally or on written work orders to the Director of Horticulture or assigned supervisor.
  • Maintain lawns, gardens, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaped areas through mowing, trimming, edging, planting, transplanting, pruning, mulching, weeding, watering, fertilizing, and seasonal landscape maintenance.
  • Prepare planting beds, improve soil conditions, install seasonal displays, and maintain ornamental gardens, containers, hanging baskets, and other landscape features.
  • Monitor plant health by identifying pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, invasive species, and environmental stress; implement or recommend corrective actions as directed.
  • Operate, inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance on irrigation systems, grounds vehicles, and landscaping equipment; report repair needs promptly.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, riding mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, chainsaws, trimmers, leaf blowers, and other equipment while following all applicable safety policies and procedures.

Maintain clean and safe walkways, parking areas, roads and public spaces by removing debris, leaves, hazardous limbs, plowing snow, shoveling snow, treating slippery surfaces with salt or sand, cleanup storm damage and assist with seasonal cleanup.

  • Assist with inventory of plants, landscape materials, fertilizers, mulch, and equipment; support special events, beautification projects, volunteer activities, and educational programs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Experience in Grounds is preferred but not required, a high school diploma or its equivalent, and a valid Ohio Driver’s License is required.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to pleasantly greet the public while on a job site.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply the basic math concepts.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk;

use hand to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, climb or balance;

specific vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift heavy equipment and material up to 50 pounds with assistance will be provided. Must be able to move tables and chairs with assistance. Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding, etc. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. You will be required to wear the correct PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and it will be provided for you.
