Job summary

University of North Florida in Jacksonville, FL seeks a Grounds Maintenance position within the Department Physical Facilities, Grounds. The role focuses on turf, landscape, and irrigation upkeep, litter control, and event setup. You will assist with campus utility work and emergency response as required.

The position reports to supervision and includes routine tasks such as mowing, bed maintenance, and equipment upkeep, with duties adjusted by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• This position requires completion of ninth grade or an equivalent combo of education and experience per Fla. Stat. 112.219.

Responsibilities

• Mow, weed eat, edge asphalt and cement surfaces.
• Maintain plant beds and landscaping.
• Perform equipment and shop maintenance.
• Construct and install landscape elements.
• Assist with special projects and events.
• Support campus maintenance emergencies and new utilities work.
• Manage work orders and perform raking and cleanup.
• Participate in prescribed burning as needed.

Department Physical Facilities, Grounds Compensation $16.00 Hourly

General Description / Primary Purpose: This is work performing grounds maintenance and landscape installation duties including but not restricted to maintenance of turf, landscape, and irrigation; litter control; and set up for special events. Specific duties will be determined by the supervisor.

Job Function:

• Mowing Weed eating, edging asphalt and cement surfaces
• Plant bed maintenance
• Equipment/shop maintenance
• Landscape construction
• Special projects/events
• Participate in special event set ups and other work
• Assist with campus maintenance emergencies
• Assist with new utilities installation and maintenance of existing utilities
• Manages work orders
• Raking leaves
• Prescribed burning

This position is designated as a Tier 2 respondent for designated campus emergencies and events. In the event of a declared campus emergency, the position incumbent will make every effort to return to campus when directed.

Supervision Received:

Close supervision. The incumbent's work is reviewed by the supervisor for accuracy and to ensure instructions are being followed.

Required Qualifications

Completion of ninth (9th) grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Some positions may require possession of a classified driver’s license appropriate to a type of vehicle operated.
