Job Description

The University of Indianapolis is currently accepting applicationsfor a Groundskeeper. This is a full-time, non-exempt staffposition. The Groundskeeper is responsible for the upkeepofUniversity grounds, amenities, academic and residential buildingexteriors, athletic complexes, parking lots, concrete, hardscapesand peripheral properties owned and controlled by theUniversity.

REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience
  • At least one year of experience in groundskeeping or relatedfield is required, where knowledge of the methods, materials andequipment used in planting, cultivating, and trimming a variety oftypes of trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers and grasses has beengained.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Licenses/Certifications/Credentials
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must pass physical and drug screening
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Follow the guidance and direction of supervisor(s).
  • Demonstrate respectful, ethical, responsible behavior.
  • Abide by the University’s policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Perform employee responsibilities as detailed in employeehandbooks and policies.
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance andpunctuality.
  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to care and upkeepof all outdoor areas on campus.
  • Care for and monitoring of health of all landscape areas.
  • Prunes perennials, shrubs and trees using appropriatetechniques.
  • Landscape installation and renovation.
  • Mowing, edging, line trimming.
  • Fertilization and pesticide applications to turf and ornamentalareas.
  • Set up for sports events; includes clean up during and aftergames.
  • Maintain all asphalt and concrete areas such as parking lots,roads, sidewalks, steps and landings.
  • Remove all trash and debris from the grounds.
  • Maintain and operate a campus-wide irrigation system.
  • Maintain University vehicle fleet and equipment.
  • Assist in snow/ice removal for campus. Includes but not limitedto: shoveling of steps, ramps and landings, plowing of allsidewalks, roads and parking lots and the application of rock saltand ice melt.
  • Must adhere to all safety standards and work practicesestablished by the Facilities Management Office.
  • Assist other departments in projects and set-ups whenneeded.
  • Other duties, including special projects, as required orassigned.
