Job summary

Jackson State Community College is seeking a Grounds Worker to support the Grounds Manager in maintaining campus grounds, landscaping, streets and walks. This full-time position requires performing routine maintenance and improvements on outdoor spaces, ensuring safe and clean campus surroundings.

The role involves operating commercial lawn equipment, trimming and pruning plantings, applying lawn chemicals under supervision, and assisting with events and freight deliveries.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ years’ experience in grounds or related maintenance.
• Experience with grounds maintenance and landscaping (preferred).
• Ability to move throughout the campus and lift up to 50-75 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Mow, trim, prune, weed, clean, and remove debris on campus grounds.
• Operate commercial lawn equipment (mowers, tractors, backhoes, and forklift).
• Maintain streets, parking lots, walks, and install signs; maintain ponds.
• Cultivate, toe trench, and mulch landscape plantings, shrubs and trees.
• Apply herbicides, insecticides, and fertilizers under supervision of Grounds Manager.
• Empty outside trash receptacles and clean campus grounds.
• Assist in delivering campus freight and log daily freight information.
• Move offices and set up events.
• May perform other work as required (Essential).

Job Summary

This is a full-time position working under the general supervision of the Grounds Manager or designee. The Grounds Worker is responsible for the maintenance and improvements of campus grounds, landscaping, streets, and walks.

Job Duties

• 100% -
• Maintenance of campus grounds including mowing, trimming, pruning, weeding, cleaning, debris removal, and picking up trash.
• Operate various types of commercial equipment (i.e., Mower, tractors, backhoe, and forklift).
• Maintenance of streets, parking lots, walks, installing traffic signs and maintenance of ponds.
• Cultivate, toe trench, and mulch landscape plantings, shrubs and trees.
• Mix and apply herbicides, insecticides, and fertilizers with the supervision of the Grounds Manager.
• Empty outside trash receptacles and pick up trash and debris on campus grounds.
• Cleaning of roadways, parking lots, sidewalks, and building entrances during weather emergencies affecting normal campus operations (i.e., snow removal, debris removal).
• Clean and properly maintain equipment and tools.
• Assist in delivering of all campus incoming freight and log daily freight information.
• Office moves and event setups.
• May perform other work as required. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

Working conditions require the ability to work outdoors in temperature extremes with frequent flying debris and hazardous chemicals using potentially hazardous equipment, to perform strenuous tasks, with high noise levels, and the ability to stand, lift, carry, bend, walk, climb, and crawl.

Pay Rate

$30,000 - $32,250 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience, which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
