Town of Surf City is seeking a Grounds Technician (Solid Waste) for part-time, non-exempt work year-round. The role includes rolling back solid waste containers, maintaining Town grounds and facilities, and performing basic equipment upkeep.
Weekdays and weekends are required, with up to 999 hours per year and no benefits. Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license; FEMA ICS/NIMS courses may be required for certain responsibilities.
The Grounds Technician Solid Waste Part-time primarily works in solid waste to perform cart rollbacks at specified disposal times. This position also assists in maintaining the grounds of Town-owned property, rights-of-way, and other tasks as assigned. This is a year-round, non-exempt, part-time position that requires weekdays and weekends, with a maximum of 999 hours worked per year, with no benefits. The majority of work is performed Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday.
These duties and responsibilities are not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the Town.
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and the ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job such as those listed above and at least 18 years of age.
Knowledge of general maintenance techniques related to the area of assignment.
Skilled in driving a vehicle; communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
ICS/NIMS course minimums required for all employees include FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800. Additionally, employees assigned middle and upper-level responsibilities within incident operations may also be required to complete additional follow-on courses deemed necessary by Emergency Management and Human Resources staff.
Ability to represent the Town professionally and respectfully while interacting with a diverse set of individuals within the workplace and the community.
Employee is generally exposed to outdoor conditions and may be frequently exposed to weather elements including rain, wind, varying temperatures, etc. In addition, the employee must effectively deal with personal danger, which may include exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials, fumes and smoke, intense heat, electrical hazards, confined or high workplaces, dangerous animals, extremely loud noises, hazards of working in and near traffic, and natural and man-made disasters.
Employee must read and write, and interact with others in person, over the phone, and via other devices. Travel is required daily to outside sites in order to perform the duties described above. Work may require walking, standing, bending, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, and/or moving equipment, pushing, and pulling various objects, climbing stairs and ladders, and operating assigned equipment including motor vehicles. Must be able to perform medium to heavy work exerting up to seventy-five(75) pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to twenty (20) pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
