Job summary

Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs manual labor to maintain clean and orderly of all Solid Waste Department indoor and outside work areas.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direct supervision from the Supervisor Solid Waste - Operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Repetitive bending, stooping, and lifting to collect solid waste material from the Transfer Station area and right of ways.
  • Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing and polishing floors.
  • Wash windows, woodwork, walls and ceilings.
  • Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
  • Gather and dispose of trash and waste.
  • Polish furniture.
  • Maintain grounds surrounding Solid Waste facilities.
  • Assist in moving heavy objects.
  • Operation of janitorial/maintenance equipment to include vacuums, buffers, lawn mowers, etc.
  • Occasionally prepare simple reports and records.
  • Performs other essential duties as required to achieve successful operations of the department.
  • The employee must have the ability to work well with others and have a good/pleasant attitude.
  • Adherence to attendance policies is a condition of employment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with citizens who may have complaints on services provided.
  • Must be able to follow directions.
  • Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
  • May serve as a member of various employee committees.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required.
  • Six (6) months related experience in janitorial/custodial and facility maintenance useful.
  • Valid State Driver's License or able to get one by date of hire.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
  • Garbage trucks, articulated loader, boom truck, dumpster rig, roll-off truck, forklift, utility trailers, pickup truck, steam cleaning machine, push and riding lawnmowers, hand/power tools, and tire changing equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, Working on high compaction packer with moving parts, diesel exhaust fumes, noise, dirt, chemicals, inclement weather, falling objects, protruding objects, sharp objects, blood borne pathogens, standing on a step of a moving vehicle in heavy traffic, animals at large, working near moving traffic, some work in confined spaces.
