Job summary

Spotsylvania County is recruiting a general laborer for the Utilities Public/Works and Parks & Recreation departments. The role covers litter pickup, landscape tasks, operating light machinery, and using hand tools. The employee may be scheduled to work weekends and under varying weather conditions.

Applicants must be able to read and communicate verbally. A pre-employment drug test is required for Utilities/Public Works. Safety shoes and county uniform are provided.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license preferred.
• Ability to read and communicate verbally.
• Employee must wear safety shoes and county-provided uniform.
• Pre-employment drug test will be required for Utilities and Public Works.
• May be required to work weekends, holidays and during inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Performs trash and debris pickup at various locations on uneven ground.
• Assists in general landscaping duties such as mowing, trimming, raking leaves.
• Operates light machinery and uses hand tools as needed.
• Cleans equipment and vehicles; drains fluids from small equipment.
• Performs building and grounds maintenance work and related duties.
