Job summary

SSC Services for Education seeks a Grounds Superintendent to lead a multi-faceted grounds operation in Tampa, FL. This hands-on role focuses on guiding, instructing, and developing a team, emphasizing high-quality landscape, hardscape, turf, trees, shrubs, and equipment maintenance.

You will train staff, manage inventory, control costs, and coordinate with unit directors on projects and events to ensure client satisfaction and account retention.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor's Degree, or 5-10 years of experience in Grounds Management.
• Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership.
• Possess a thorough knowledge of contract administration and office procedures.
• Excellent communication with senior client & internal staff.
• Knowledge of trees, shrubs, plants, woody ornamentals, grasses, vines, and ground covers.
• Comprehension of landscape tools, tool maintenance, handling of small equipment and minor repairs.
• Ability to communicate effectively in written format and oral presentations.
• Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
• Experience managing employees.
• Work in inclement weather, lift, bend, stoop and occasionally lift up to 50lbs.
• Ability to work off/non-scheduled hours for campus events.

Responsibilities

• Train staff in operational procedures for grounds operations.
• Ensure Quality Assurance of work through a recorded QA system and frequent inspections.
• Train team in proper methods and SOPs for grounds.
• Work in the field under varied weather conditions (70% field, 30% admin).
• Control expenses within scope of responsibility.
• Provide weekly operating reports to Grounds Manager/Facility Director.
• Staffing and productivity management to meet targets.
• Assist in interviewing, hiring, and progressive counseling.
