Job summary

Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) seeks an Assistant Supervisor of Grounds to support the Grounds department in maintaining safe and attractive campus grounds, roadways, and parking areas. The role includes assisting with daily operations, Event Services setups, and relocations, with the supervisor role assumed in their absence.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED and at least two years of relevant experience; preferred certifications include Fertilizer and Pesticide

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two years of relevant experience.
• Fertilizer Applicator Certification and Pesticide Applicator Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with departmental scheduling, supervision, motivation, and documentation of daily Grounds operations.
• Oversee landscaping tasks including flowerbeds, shrubs, trees, soil prep, planting, mulching, and maintenance; manage grass mowing schedule.
• Ensure campus grounds are neat by supervising trash/recycling collection and clearing debris from steps and sidewalks.
• Oversee snow-removal handcrew operations to keep walkways accessible during winter.
• Coordinate with Event Services for setup/breakdown of spaces for events, including flooring and furniture arrangements.
• Move/relocate furniture and equipment in coordination with Facilities, Planning & Construction as needed.
• Inspect and maintain campus fire hydrants, storm drains, and stormwater ponds; ensure compliance with codes.
• Direct maintenance and repair of Grounds equipment and operation of forklifts, front-end loaders, tractors, and bucket trucks.
• Unload/relocate freight to support college departments.
