Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington is seeking a Groundskeeper to mow, trim, edge turf and maintain landscapes across campus. You will operate riding and push mowers, weed whips, edgers, and irrigation systems, and assist with snow removal as needed.

Responsibilities include installing and maintaining irrigation, applying seed and fertilizer, performing basic building maintenance, and driving university vehicles when required. A high school diploma and 2 years of landscape experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (HSED or GED).
• 2 years of landscape or grounds-related work experience OR 2 years of light general maintenance experience.

Job Summary

• Mows, trims and edges grass and turf of specialized areas usingriding mower, push mower, weed whip and edger. Mulches, weeds,removes thatch, aerates, and trims and edges around flower beds,walks, pathways and walls.


• Oversees irrigation systems, including regular inspections,adjustments, and repairs to ensure proper watering schedules andoptimal turf and/or grass health.


• Applies seed, fertilizer and chemicals.


• Performs snow and ice removal with hand tools and powerequipment .


• Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation equipment,including sprinklers, valves, controllers, and pipes. Performsroutine checks and maintenance on equipment to ensure properfunctioning.


• Transports parts, tools, equipment, and materials.


• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned,including general building maintenance duties. Drives Universityvehicles as needed. Works any shift as needed. 24-hour a dayemergency response as needed. Assists with snow removal activitiesas necessary.


• May wash vehicles, checks and tops off fluid levels, anddelivers vehicles for maintenance or servicing.

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 2 years of experience with landscape or grounds related work.OR


• 2 years of experience with light general maintenance.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary positionas well as the ability to move about the workplace for longdurations. It requires effective communication, the ability tooperate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires theability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one'sself in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/orgases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and movein tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person inthis role must be able to perform the essential functions with orwithout an accommodation.
Available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) whenweather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to takecare of the campus.
