Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington seeks a facilities manager to support Pfau Course operations, turfgrass management, and course preparation for daily play and tournaments.

You will assist in planning, monitoring irrigation, equipment coordination, and environmental safety, while supervising seasonal staff and coordinating improvement projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management or related field.
  • 2 years in facilities management, project management, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily operation, maintenance, and presentation of Pfau Course.
  • Support in planning, coordinating, and monitoring turfgrass upkeep, irrigation, and course preparation for daily play and events.
  • Provide operational oversight of maintenance activities and ensure playing conditions.
  • Coordinate maintenance planning, irrigation monitoring, and equipment coordination.
  • Assist with environmental stewardship, safety procedures, and procurement.
  • Inspect turf, irrigation, landscape, and property for maintenance needs.
  • Assist in planning golf course improvement projects and budgeting.
  • Prepare estimates for maintenance projects and monitor progress on tasks.
  • Monitor inventory and allocate supplies; support on-call responses for weather events.

Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Assists with the daily operation, maintenance, and presentationof the Pfau Course at Indiana University.
  • Supports the Golf Course Superintendent in planning,coordinating, and monitoring turfgrass maintenance, irrigationsystems, landscape management, equipment usage, and coursepreparation for daily play, tournaments, and special events.
  • Provides operational oversight of golf course maintenanceactivities and assists in ensuring exceptional playing conditionsthrough sound agronomic practices, environmental stewardship, andefficient resource management.
  • Assists in managing golf course maintenance operations,including maintenance planning, irrigation monitoring, equipmentcoordination, and response to operational issues affecting courseconditions.
  • Coordinates environmental stewardship and safety procedureswith university personnel, regulatory agencies, and externalvendors when necessary.
  • Performs scheduled and ad hoc inspections to identifyturfgrass, irrigation, landscape, course conditioning, and propertymaintenance needs.
  • Assists with planning and execution of golf course improvementprojects, including budgeting, implementation, and completion.
  • Prepares estimates for maintenance projects and repairs andsupports cost-effective management of operational resources.
  • Coordinates completion of work orders and correctivemaintenance activities and monitors progress on assignedprojects.
  • Monitors inventory and equipment conditions, maintains requiredrecords, and assists with procurement of supplies andmaterials.
  • Participates in an on-call rotation and responds toweather-related events, irrigation issues, and other emergencysituations affecting golf course operations.
  • Assists in supervising and coordinating student employees,temporary staff, and seasonal maintenance personnel.
  • Recommends operational improvements that enhance courseconditions, efficiency, safety, and environmentalsustainability.
General Responsibilities
  • Manages building operations and maintenance such as maintenanceplanning, security/access control, and emergency response.Coordinates fire and life safety, environmental safety procedures,and planning with university personnel and external agencies whererequired.
  • Performs periodic scheduled and ad hoc inspections to identifycleaning and property maintenance needs; participates in allaspects of project development, budget, implementation, andcompletion.
  • Prepares estimates for repairs and ensures building maintenancefalls within allocated budget with an emphasis oncost-containment.
  • Coordinates fulfillment of work orders for corrective actionand routine maintenance; monitors progress, escalating especiallycomplex matters as needed.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory levels and equipment/assetconditions through regular inspections and completion of requireddocumentation. Orders supplies/equipment when necessary.
  • Participates in and maintains an on-call rotation to coveremergency situations.
  • May provide guidance to non-exempt Licensed and Skilled Tradesstaff or lower-level Facility Operations Specialists.
  • May make procedural and process recommendations to supervisorfor improved operational efficiency.

  • Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy,Horticulture, or a related field.

  • Experience with Toro 2-Wire irrigation systems and Lynxirrigation software.
  • Experience with irrigation system monitoring, troubleshooting,and repair.
  • Experience supervising seasonal, temporary, or studentemployees.
  • Knowledge of turfgrass establishment, fertilization programs,pest management, and cultural practices.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Indiana pesticideapplicator license.
  • Familiarity with John Deere golf course maintenanceequipment.
  • Participation in GCSAA educational programs or professionaldevelopment opportunities.
