Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington is seeking a skilled Groundskeeper for Athletics grounds maintenance. Responsibilities include mowing and edging, irrigation oversight, applying fertilizers and chemicals, and winter snow/ice removal across campus facilities.

Required are two years of landscape or general maintenance experience and a valid driver's license. The role involves operating a range of equipment and collaborating with campus staff.

Responsibilities

• Mows, trims and edges grass and turf in specialized areas using riding/push mowers and edgers.
• Oversees irrigation systems, including inspections and repairs.
• Applies seed, fertilizer and chemicals.
• Performs snow and ice removal with hand tools and power equipment.
• Operates and maintains irrigation equipment (sprinklers, valves, controllers, pipes).
• Drives University vehicles as needed and assists with snow removal as necessary.

Job description

ATHLETICS (BA-ATHL-IUBLA)

• Mows, trims and edges grass and turf of specialized areas using riding mower, push mower, weed whip and edger. Mulches, weeds, removes thatch, aerates, and trims and edges around flower beds, walks, pathways and walls.
• Oversees irrigation systems, including regular inspections, adjustments, and repairs to ensure proper watering schedules and optimal turf and/or grass health.
• Applies seed, fertilizer and chemicals.
• Performs snow and ice removal with hand tools and power equipment .
• Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation equipment, including sprinklers, valves, controllers, and pipes. Performs routine checks and maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• Transports parts, tools, equipment, and materials.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drives University vehicles as needed. Works any shift as needed. 24-hour a day emergency response as needed. Assists with snow removal activities as necessary.
• May wash vehicles, checks and tops off fluid levels, and delivers vehicles for maintenance or servicing.

EDUCATION

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 2 years of experience with landscape or grounds related work. OR
• 2 years of experience with light general maintenance.

• Possesses a valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.

This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.
