Job summary

Yuma County, AZ is seeking a Grounds, Landscaping and Custodial Worker to perform routine grounds maintenance, cleaning and delivery duties for Library facilities.

Under close supervision, this role involves mowing, trimming, irrigation system work, pesticide application (license required within six months), and occasional painting or repairs. Applicants need a High School Diploma or GED and at least one year of relevant experience, plus a valid Arizona driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Must obtain and maintain State of Arizona pesticide applicator license within six months of hire.
  • Background check required.

Responsibilities

  • Cut/edging grass, trim trees and shrubs, and maintain lawns and grounds.
  • Clean and maintain exterior landscaping, sidewalks, and parking areas of facilities.
  • Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems and sprinklers, including controls and timers.
  • Operate powered equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, sod cutters, chainsaws, and brush trimmers.
  • May assist custodial staff and perform painting or repairs as needed; regular attendance required.

Job SummaryThis position is advertised from the minimum to the maximum hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.Nature of WorkUnder close supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in maintaining grounds, cleaning, custodial, and delivery duties. This position has department specific responsibility.Nature of Work(Illustrative Only) Responsible for cutting/edging grass, trimming trees and shrubs, and maintaining grounds; cleans and maintains exterior landscaping, sidewalks and parking areas of Library facilities; installs, maintains and repairs sprinklers and irrigation systems including pipes, valves and sprinkler heads to allow for proper watering of grounds and landscape plants; installs, maintains and repairs irrigation controls, timers, pump controls, flood-irrigation valves; operates powered equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, sod cutters, chain-saws, and brush trimmers; applies pesticides for weed control and pest control (State-issued applicator license required); identifies and reports repair needs to Supervisor; makes minor repairs when appropriate; cleans and empties exterior trash bins; may sort and deliver supplies and materials; may assist custodial staff as needed; may paint and repair items as needed; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.Experience and EducationHigh School Diploma or GED; AND one year of grounds, landscaping, and/or custodian work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license. Must obtain and maintain State of Arizona pesticide applicator license within six months of hire. Requires successful completion of a background check.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of: County policies and procedures; materials, methods, and practices used in cleaning and sanitizing buildings and grounds, and related custodial operations; occupational hazards and safety precautions.Skill in: Maintaining safety standards; operating equipment and/or systems; following written and verbal instructions.Ability to: Work in varying extreme weather conditions; lift, push, pull or carry objects; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers; stand and bend (30%); walk and stoop (20%); perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.Work EnvironmentThe usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
