Job summary

Yuma County is seeking a Grounds/Custodian to maintain Library facilities’ grounds and provide custodial and delivery support under supervision. This role emphasizes outdoor maintenance, safety, and reliable attendance to ensure clean, safe properties for the community.

You will operate mowers and related equipment, trim trees and shrubs, maintain irrigation systems, apply pesticides (license required within six months), and assist custodial staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with one year of grounds/landscaping/custodian experience or equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.
• Must obtain and maintain State of Arizona pesticide applicator license within six months of hire.
• Background check is required.

Responsibilities

• Cutting/edging grass, trimming trees and shrubs, and maintaining grounds.
• Cleans and maintains exterior landscaping, sidewalks and parking areas of Library facilities.
• Installs, maintains and repairs sprinklers and irrigation systems including pipes, valves and sprinkler heads.
• Operates powered equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, sod cutters, chain-saws, and brush trimmers.
• Applies pesticides for weed control and pest control (State-issued applicator license required).
• Identifies and reports repair needs to Supervisor.
• Makes minor repairs when appropriate.
• Cleans and empties exterior trash bins.
• May sort and deliver supplies and materials.
• May assist custodial staff as needed.
• May paint and repair items as needed.
• Regular and reliable attendance is required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

This position is advertised from the minimum to the maximum hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.

Nature of Work

Under close supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in maintaining grounds, cleaning, custodial, and delivery duties. This position has department specific responsibility.

• Responsible for cutting/edging grass, trimming trees and shrubs, and maintaining grounds
• cleans and maintains exterior landscaping, sidewalks and parking areas of Library facilities
• installs, maintains and repairs sprinklers and irrigation systems including pipes, valves and sprinkler heads to allow for proper watering of grounds and landscape plants
• installs, maintains and repairs irrigation controls, timers, pump controls, flood-irrigation valves
• operates powered equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, sod cutters, chain-saws, and brush trimmers
• applies pesticides for weed control and pest control (State-issued applicator license required)
• identifies and reports repair needs to Supervisor
• makes minor repairs when appropriate

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; AND one year of grounds, landscaping, and/or custodian work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.
• Must obtain and maintain State of Arizona pesticide applicator license within six months of hire.
• Requires successful completion of a background check.
