Job summary

Boone County Missouri is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker in Columbia, MO. You will maintain and care for county grounds, perform mowing, pruning, planting, and safety-compliant chemical applications. Seasonal snow/ice removal and equipment maintenance are essential parts of the role.

Hours are 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A high school diploma or GED and a valid Missouri driver’s license are required. Starting pay ranges around $18.33–$18.89 per hour with full-time benefits.

Boone County, located in Columbia, MO, is looking for a Grounds Maintenance Worker.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for maintaining and caring for County grounds, landscaped areas, walkways, and parking facilities. Duties include:

• Mowing lawns and trimming grass around sidewalks, flower beds, walls, and other landscaped areas.
• Pruning and shaping shrubs and trees to promote healthy growth and maintain an attractive appearance.
• Removing damaged or dead branches and twigs using hand and power tools.
• Planting, fertilizing, watering, and maintaining flowers, trees, shrubs, and other ornamental vegetation.
• Applying herbicides and insecticides in accordance with established safety procedures and applicable regulations.
• Maintaining flower beds, landscaped areas, driveways, and parking lots.
• Removing snow and ice from sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and other designated areas.
• Applying salt and other ice-control materials as needed.
• Performing seasonal grounds maintenance, including litter removal, leaf raking, and leaf collection.
• Performing routine cleaning, inspection, and maintenance of groundskeeping equipment and tools.
• Operating a variety of trucks, vehicles, and grounds maintenance equipment, including zero-turn mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, brush hogs, snow blowers, snowplows, salt spreaders, chainsaws, electric trimmers, and pruning saws.
• Assisting maintenance staff with facility and grounds projects during the winter months and as needed throughout the year.
• Following established safety procedures and properly operating and maintaining assigned equipment.
• Performing other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Status: Full-time, non-exempt, benefited

Working hours: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Lifting is a common, everyday occurrence; at times the ability to lift over 50 pounds is required. Must have a valid Missouri driver's license.

Starting Hourly Salary Range: $18.33 - $18.89 per hour
