Job summary

University of Louisville is seeking a General Maintenance Technician I (Groundskeeping Laborer) at Belknap Campus. This full-time, regular position provides labor support to the Grounds department with duties including trash collection, landscaping tasks, and event setup.

Responsibilities include snow removal, lifting up to 50 pounds, operating heavy equipment when needed, and performing safety checks. The role requires outdoor work in all weather conditions and a pre-employment physical exam.

Qualifications

• Basic ability to read and write.
• Six months of experience.
• Valid driver’s license, insurable by the university’s insurance carrier and able to operate manual transmission vehicles.
• Pre-employment physical exam required.
• Grade 1 (Hourly)

Responsibilities

• Collect and remove trash and clean parking garages and parking lots.
• Perform tasks as assigned by the Foreman.
• Lift up to 50 pounds on a consistent basis and move/lift items over 50 pounds with material handling devices.
• Set up for special events in various departments as assigned.
• Effectively work alone and with a team.
• Remove snow and ice from university walkways, roads, ramps, parking areas, and shuttle bus stops by utilizing the appropriate snow removal equipment and spreading salt in those areas.
• Properly maintain and store tools, equipment, and vehicles.
• Load and unload trucks.
• Operate a box truck, forklift, and other heavy equipment, as needed.
• Perform safety checks on equipment and vehicles for safe operations according to the standard of use, and report any damage for repairs or replacement
• Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner.
• Attend required trainings and meetings.
• Contribute to the overall success of the assigned department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s).
• Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including but not limited to snow, rain, heat, and cold.
