Job summary

City of Gainesville, FL is seeking a Grounds Technician I to perform entry-level groundskeeping and outdoor maintenance tasks. The role reports to a supervisor and emphasizes routine, outdoor work, seasonal planting, and equipment operation.

Salary ranges from $15.00 to $22.10 per hour with a typical schedule of 10-hour days mid-week and shorter weekend shifts. A pre-employment physical may be required, with full benefits for regular employees.

Qualifications

• Completion of eighth grade and six months experience in laboring work, professional landscaping or park maintenance, including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair, or construction work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine trail, grounds and landscaping work, including pruning, mowing, weed control and debris removal.
• Operates riding mowers, tractors and other motorized vehicles as required.
• Assists journey-level workers in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, concrete and other trade work.
• Uses hand and power tools to perform maintenance and construction tasks.
• Assists in customer service by helping park visitors and supporting events when needed.
